The largest application of ABM’s new Diaphragm Formwork System (DFS) forms part of the new Bletchley Flyover, where East West Rail crosses the West Coast Mainline. The system provides a vertical permanent formwork solution between prestressed beams to form the front face of the in-situ cast diaphragm. The majority of the system is pre-fitted to the prestressed beams before delivery with the final ‘closing’ panel being put in place once the beams are installed using a simple overlapping panel secured with a sealing tape which can accommodate minor variations in beam placement.

The system removes the need for temporary shutters, speeding construction and minimising working at height.

The ABM Diaphragm Formwork System can be supplied to suit any of the company’s range of 14 beam profiles and works equally well with skewed and raked beams. When used with W, U and UM beams an additional GRP panel is pre-fixed inside the beam.

The system complements the well-established EMJ Plastics horizontal Permadec system (see http://www.permadec.com/).
